Playing with Casimir in the vacuum sandbox

چکیده
Abstract The Casimir effect continues to be a subject of discussion regarding its relationship, or the lack it, with vacuum energy fluctuating quantum fields. In this note, we propose Gedankenexperiment considering an imaginary process similar fluctuation in typical static set up. thought experiment leads intriguing conclusions minimum distance between plates when approaching Planck scale. More specifically, it is found that cannot reach value below $$(L/L_P)^{2/3}$$ ( L / P ) 2 3 lengths, being $$L_P$$ length and L lateral extension plates. Additional findings allow conclusion approach two towards separation asymptotic.

Playing in the Sandbox: Developing games for children with disabilities
Many researchers believe that special games are needed for people with special needs. However, this study highlights some of the issues surrounding computer games and disabled children by conducting interviews to ask them what games they would like to play. Interestingly, they wanted to play the same games that everyone else did. What they do need is a way of interacting with these games, espec...
متن کاملProblems with the Casimir Vacuum Energy
A critical look is taken at the calculation of the Casimir effect. The boundary conditions play an important role and should be imposed in a physical way. An acceptable result for the vacuum energy is only obtained when different regularization schemes yield the same result. Radiative corrections to the Casimir force between two parallel plates due to electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations have be...
متن کاملCasimir energy in the Fulling–Rindler vacuum
The Casimir energy is evaluated for massless scalar fields under Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, and for the electromagnetic field with perfect conductor boundary conditions on one and two infinite parallel plates moving by uniform proper acceleration through the Fulling–Rindler vacuum in an arbitrary number of spacetime dimension. For the geometry of a single plate both regions of th...
متن کاملThe Casimir Effect and the Quantum Vacuum
In discussions of the cosmological constant, the Casimir effect is often invoked as decisive evidence that the zero point energies of quantum fields are “real”. On the contrary, Casimir effects can be formulated and Casimir forces can be computed without reference to zero point energies. They are relativistic, quantum forces between charges and currents. The Casimir force (per unit area) betwee...
متن کاملCasimir Effect and Vacuum Fluctuations
Vacuum fluctuations have observable consequences, like the Casimir force between two plates in vacuum. There now exists good agreement between theory and experimental measurements of this force. The role of the Casimir effect in diverse fields such as Quantum Field Theory, Condensed Matter Physics and Atomic Physics etc is discussed. A brief description of current applications to nanotechnology...
